Broadband
Is fibre available at my address in South Taranaki?
Fibre reaches most towns in South Taranaki, including Hawera, Eltham, Manaia, Patea, Opunake and Waverley, plus Whanganui, Palmerston North and Feilding. Type your address into the checker on our home fibre or business fibre pages for an instant answer and live pricing. If fibre is not there yet we will show you VDSL, ADSL or Starlink instead.

What is the difference between Fibre Broadband and ADSL or VDSL?
Fibre Broadband runs over glass fibre to your property and gives the fastest, most consistent speeds. ADSL and VDSL run over the older copper phone network and are the fallback where fibre has not arrived yet, common on rural roads around Hawera and across Taranaki. Our blog explains the trade-offs in plain English.

Do Talk2Me broadband plans have data caps?
No. Our home and business fibre and DSL plans are unlimited, with no data caps. A fair use policy applies.
Do I get a public IP address, and can I have a static IP?
Yes. Every Talk2Me connection gets a public IP address and we never use CGNAT, which is ideal for hosting, gaming, VPNs and remote access. A static IP is an optional add-on for $5/month +GST on home and business plans.

What can I do if my property is out of fibre and copper range?
For dairy farms, lifestyle blocks and coastal properties beyond the fixed network we can help with Starlink satellite internet, and pair it with a VoIP home phone so you keep a proper phone line.

Phone & VoIP
What is VoIP, and will it work with my existing phone?
VoIP carries your calls over your internet connection instead of an old copper line. Most ordinary cordless and desk phones work through a small adapter or a VoIP handset, and you can also answer your number on an app. If you already pay for internet, calling this way is usually cheaper and unlocks features the copper network never could.

Can I keep my Hawera, Whanganui or Palmerston North phone number?
Yes. Almost any NZ landline, 0800 or 028 number can be ported to Talk2Me for a once-off fee of $25, so callers keep dialling the number they know. Our knowledge base walks through what we need from you and how long it takes.

Will my VoIP phone work in a power cut, and can I still call 111?
In a power cut or internet outage a VoIP phone may not work, so you may not be able to call 111 from it. Always keep a charged mobile as a backup, and tell us if anyone in your household relies on the phone for medical or safety reasons so we can help you set things up safely. Please read our 111 and power-cut safety page.

Are calls between Talk2Me customers free?
Yes. Talk2Me-to-Talk2Me calls are free on every home and business plan, so calling other Talk2Me homes and businesses around South Taranaki, Whanganui or Manawatu costs nothing.
What do calls cost outside my plan?
Standard rates are 3c/min local, 5c/min national and 20c/min to NZ mobiles, billed in one-minute blocks. International rates are available on request.
